Installing
If you’ve been invited to give feedback via an Android device, you’ll need to download and use the UserTesting App for Android to do so.
When you tap the link you’ve been sent, you’ll be taken to an introduction page that shows the requirements for the session. Tap “Get Started” to continue.
Enter your email address so that we can identify you and direct you to the correct session once you download our app. Tap “Download the UserTesting App” to continue.
At this point, you’ll be taken to the UserTesting App in the App Store. Tap “Install” to install the app to your device.
Starting a session
After installation, open the UserTesting App and enter the same email address you did before so that we can direct you to the correct session.
Due to an Android security feature, you’ll need to enable an option on your device to allow us to see where you tap during the session. Since we can only hear your voice and see your screen, knowing exactly where you're tapping is very beneficial for understanding how you interact with an app or site. Tap “Start Quick Setup” to begin.
Follow the prompts to enter developer mode and enable taps. Tap the blue highlighted words for quick shortcuts to the correct sections of your Settings.
Next, you’ll be taken to the Microphone Check to make sure we can detect your audio. When prompted, allow access UserTesting to record your microphone.
Make sure to speak loudly and clearly, then tap “Task Button Tutorial” after you’ve passed the microphone check.
Next, you’ll see a short tutorial on how to use the task button during the session. Tap the task button to minimize and maximize the task instructions throughout the session to view the website or test content.
Finally, you’ll see a few last-minute reminders to keep in mind. When you’re ready, tap “Start Test”, and you’ll be taken to the scenario for your session.
Remember to use the task button ( - ) to minimize the task instructions and view the website as needed. To maximize the task instructions, tap the task button ( + ) again.
Reporting a problem
If you get stuck and either can’t complete a task or aren’t sure what to do next, tap the menu icon in the top left of the recorder. From the menu that appears, you’ll have the options to View scenario, Report a problem, or Quit test.
Reporting a problem releases you from the session and sends a message to our Support Team, who will then follow up with the person who wrote the task instructions.
Quit test releases you from the session without notifying our team.
Ending a session
The final screen before you end a session prompts you to provide any final thoughts. This is a good opportunity to summarize what you’ve said throughout the session or offer any other feedback you have.
When you tap “Stop Recording”, your session recording will begin uploading immediately. If you don’t want to submit your recording for any reason, please quit the session instead of tapping “Stop Recording”.
After you tap “Stop Recording”, you’ll see a screen showing the progress of your upload. Once you see the success message that thanks you for your feedback, make sure to turn off developer mode by tapping the blue highlighted “Settings > Developer Options” and switching off the toggle.
After that, you’re done! Feel free to uninstall the UserTesting app from your device.
