What is Face Recording?
Face Recording is a new test type that allows UserTesting to capture your facial expressions during a standard unmoderated test. Our customers are interested in seeing your natural reactions when you interact with their products and experiences. This gives them deeper insights into your thoughts and feelings.
You’ll continue through the test as normal by completing the tasks, but the recording will include video of your face and any surroundings, in addition to your screen and audio.
Does my computer have to meet any minimum requirements?
If you use the Safari browser, you’ll need to make sure it's updated to at least Version 15. If you need to check the version number of your Safari browser, open Safari, click on the Safari menu, and then select “About Safari.” This will open a new window that includes the details for the current version of your browser.
In general, it is good practice to make sure your browser is regularly updated. For all other browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge), please check that you’re using either the current browser version or one of the two previous browser versions.
Do I have to allow any permissions for Face Recording tests?

If you participate in a test that requires Face Recording, you’ll need to allow camera access. You’ll be prompted to do this the first time you accept a test that requires camera access.
Windows:
If you’re using a Windows computer, you’ll complete a quick check to ensure that you’re using the camera of your choice and that your face is in the center of the screen.
Mac:
If you’re using a Mac computer, you’ll need to turn on some extra permissions before you can continue to the camera check.
Mobile:

Once you’ve positioned yourself in the middle of the video preview, tap the "Continue" button to proceed.
During your test, you’ll see a red camera icon above the task instructions:
This icon indicates that your camera is recording, so remember to keep your camera level and positioned so that it’s facing you throughout the test.
